Microsoft deja vu?

Postby Triviadave » Tue May 02, 2017 7:22 pm

I have just watched some of Microsoft's 2nd May event http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/140913-you-can-watch-microsoft-s-2-may-education-event-here-surface-laptop-and-windows-10-s-revealed, and it made me wonder if they are responding to the "threat" of Linux in schools (from Raspberry Pis, chromebooks, etc) in the same way they did to netbooks, and if so, is there anything we can do to stop it?

Yes, I think they are. ChromeOS has been a bit of a silent hit with the education market. The kids don't need their own laptop - they can just pluck one from a rack and work straight away. They can also collaborate very quickly.

Microsoft are always acutely aware that if the next generation grow up without being used to Windows / Office, they will lose a large part of their future market share. It's why they provide Windows for free in India for schools that can't pay for it.
